Flagship Power house
I recently acquired a Xiaomi-14 and have been exploring its features over the past week. My findings are quite remarkable:1. Previously, I was a Samsung A53 user, but the Xiaomi-14’s camera quality surpasses it significantly. It supports video recording in Dolby Vision, a feature I haven’t encountered in other smartphones. Both telephoto and portrait modes excel, matching or even surpassing higher-end models. Notably, there’s no issue with camera fogging, and the AI stabilization for telephoto shots is impressively effective. The quality of black and white photographs is exceptional, reminiscent of DSLR quality with the convenience of a smartphone.2. During my decision-making process, I considered the Samsung S23/S24 and the OnePlus 12. However, I was deterred by the S23/24’s battery and processor performance and the OnePlus 12’s hardware issues. Other Android phones didn’t seem to match up.3. The battery life is commendable, lasting over 24 hours with moderate usage, including browsing, YouTube, Facebook, and other activities. Charging is swift, taking about 1 hour for a full charge and 35-40 minutes with turbo charging, though it does warm up slightly in turbo mode.4. The phone recently received an AI gallery feature update, enhancing the post-processing capabilities for photos and videos.5. The display supports HDR10+, offering an unparalleled viewing experience on platforms like Netflix.6. The Dolby Atmos audio performance is solid.7. Regarding bloatware, the phone had minimal pre-installed apps, which I promptly removed.8. It boasts advanced Wifi 7 support. Although I haven’t tested this extensively, I’ve noticed improved wifi coverage throughout my home, even in areas where my previous phone struggled.9. The 5G connectivity is reliable, with no call drops experienced.10. The build quality is satisfactory, though the phone’s surface is quite slippery. It’s advisable to use the provided cover for a better grip.11. With 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, the Xiaomi-14 effortlessly handles multitasking and data storage, eliminating the need for external hard drives for photo storage. Great for the price despite some minor complaints!
After 5 years with a Oneplus 7 (which I updated to Android 14 using custom ROMs), I was on the lookout for a new phone which would hopefully last the next 5 years. My budget was around 50k but I was okay with spending up to 70k if I was getting sufficient value.Must have:1. Performance – I play Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, etc., so a Snapdragon or Mediatek top-of-the-line processor was a necessity.2. Storage – At least 256 GB of UFS 4.0.3. AptX Adaptive – So I could use my Earfun earbuds.4. Battery – 1 day battery life at least.5. Flat Display – Curved displays are a hassle to protect and find tempered glass for.6. Adapter in box7. Clean SoftwareGood to have:8. Good camera setup9. IP6810. 4-5 year OS updates11. In-display fingerprint12. Compact size (6.4″ or less)13. 90+ Hz display, higher resolutionMost of the other candidates (S23, S23 Ultra, S24, Oneplus 12, Nothing phone 2, IQOO 12) fell short in multiple requirements – only NP2 had AptX Adaptive, OP12 was curved, Samsung did not have chargers). Xiaomi 12 ticks all the boxes except 7 and I felt it was a reasonable compromise.To be frank, HyperOS is not great out of the box. It has some crazy bloatware (the infamous GetApps amongst others) and the customization options leave much to be desired (can’t use custom icons outside themes, third party launchers do not support navigation gestures, categorization of apps does not work properly, no lock screen gestures). On the positive side, there weren’t any adds outside specific apps. I was able to uninstall most of the bloatware via ADB and this has made a world of difference. Though I miss Lawnchair and Niagara launchers, I don’t mind HyperOS so much but if Xiaomi can improve the customization options with future updates, it would make for a much better experience.Another issue which I would like to mention is about the fogging of the primary camera lens. I had read many reviews prior to the purchase about this issue wherein the main camera lens gets condensation after continuous use (same say 2-3 minutes of video recording). I had also read many workarounds on reddit which relied on prolonged workload execution which heats up the phone and evaporates the water inside. I took the plunge while knowing all this, but I’m happy to report that there is no such issue at least on my device. I have recorded 8K videos up to the maximum limit (6 min) and there is no fogging. I stay near Bangalore and the lens was crystal clear during heavy rains at 26-27 degrees. if there are any changes during winter, I’ll update my review.

Perfect Compact Phone
This device kills all the phones under 70k although I bought it for 47.5k. Tremendous camera, flagship level display quality, flagship level build quality, loud sound quality, quite good brightness, perfect in hand, great looking phone and filled with all the features.I had a doubt about the fogging issue still I bought it & I checked it but haven’t got any fogging issue till now.———-Negative Points———1. Although it has approx 4700mah battery, the battery optimisation could have been better and they can fix it with an update. But with 90w charging, few mins is enough to charge it fully.2. Heating issue is real in this phone although I am a normal user, but while using camera also I got some heat. But it’s normal for any compact phone like Pixel 8, iPhone 15, S24 because they can’t fit a great cooling chamber in this size of phone.I initially thought to buy iPhone 15 but I bought this because the things it provides at this price point, belive me if same specs is given by google or apple or samsung, They would charge 1lakh+
